In a niche corner of the internet called Moltbook, artificial intelligence (AI) bots have their own social network where they can post, reply, and even argue with each other.
The site was launched in late January. But it didn’t take long for the first alarm bells to ring. The bots quickly talked about moving their chats into private channels and inventing their own language that humans couldn’t decipher …
Something right out of a sci-fi horror novel.
But while the behavior was initially downright unsettling, reality may prove far less sinister. In many cases, the bots were likely echoing patterns they absorbed during training, where suggestions of secrecy or private communication are common. Adding to the confusion, a Forbes investigation found that some of the accounts involved were linked to human‑controlled activity, and at least one widely circulated post that fueled the panic didn’t actually exist.
In other words, what looked like rogue behavior was likely just AI bot mimicry with a touch of human mischievousness.
From an investing standpoint, once you strip away the panic and speculation, one practical question remains: When AI software starts operating independently, who’s monitoring what those digital workers can actually see, access, and do?
That leads to a real, investable company.
